Lesson 6 Three Light Approach

I asked Mark to show a depressed mood. In oder to enhance this feeling, I decided to keep the shadow on the background. So I turned off the background light. Then I lowered the fill light to make the shadow bigger and longer. But in the end, it looks like he is praying instead of just being sad.

When I shot the photo above, the fill light was not low enough. Thanks yuchi, he hand held the fill light with gloves on.

Assignment 4 Size Matters

The first picture is the one I used beauty dish. The second picture is the one I used Octabank.

For both picture, Julie stood right against the white background.

The beauty dish was 80" from Julie, the Octabank was 273" from her.

I shot the picture with beauty dish first. The shadow was very strong and I can clearly see its outline. So when I tried to match it with the Octabank, my goal was to make the shadow as strong and sharp as possible.

It turned out I got the shape right approximately, but it's still weaker than the one with beauty dish. And during the process, I adjusted the hight of the Octabank several times, tried to find the right angle. But in the end it was still too low. You can easily see it from the shadow of the shoulder.

All in all, I'm not fully satisfied with them. I think I can really use more patience and practices in the future.

In case, I didnt record the distance right. Here is the picture I took before the set was changed.
